Can you promote in r/wordpress?

The short answer

Avoid public promotional replies; instead provide helpful, non-promotional technical answers and direct founders to the dedicated r/WordpressPlugins or other allowed venues if they need to promote a product.

What works here

  • Answer technical questions without self-promotion
  • Share free open-source projects once with [PROMO] and no other rule violations
  • Use community resources/links (WordPress.org support, StackExchange) for support

What gets posts removed

  • Posting promotional content, product pitches, demos or solicitations
  • Including affiliate links or shortened URLs
  • Posting paid plugin promotions or recruiting customers/jobs

Where this comes from

No promotions of products or services

The rules state posts/comments intended for promotion or advertising will be removed; paid plugins with free trials are disallowed and plugin promotion is redirected to r/WordpressPlugins.

Single exception for OSS

Free open-source projects on WordPress.org or GitHub are permitted once and must have a [PROMO] title, indicating a narrow allowed case.

No affiliate links / No URL shorteners

Affiliate links are prohibited and URL shorteners are disallowed, limiting marketing link use in posts/comments.

No low-effort or off-topic promotional content

Posts that just link externally without context will be removed; posts must be related to WordPress and not mere blog/marketing links.

Redirects promotional activity

The sidebar points vendors to r/WordpressPlugins and r/WordPressthemes for promotional lists and plugin promotions.
